You're probably wondering what it's like to see a therapist if you are pursuing therapy for the first time. Or you might be entering into therapy after previous experiences with the process.

Physical, emotional and environmental wellness all factor into one's mental health. Many issues can contribute to challenges with mental health including situational stressors such as loss, relationship conflicts, employment struggles and life transitions. In addition to these stressors, some people struggle with issues from childhood or unhealthy patterns that affect their relationships.

Even with a stable upbringing or outward success, many people still develop:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Anger Issues
  • Relationship Issues
  • Attachment Issues

These patterns are not conscious choices - new research shows us that they are adaptive responses that can be understood and recalibrated.

I recognize that everyone's situation is unique and make every effort to understand all aspects of one's life in order to reach an accurate diagnosis and deliver highly personalized treatment that maximizes your changes of success.

I am a dedicated professional committed to providing quality mental health services across Alaska. It is my overall goal to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families.

What to Expect When Starting Your Therapy Journey

1. Complimentary 15-Minute Phone Consultation

During the initial 15-minute phone consultation, we will explore your reasons for seeking therapy and discuss your needs and goals. We will also answer any questions you may have about the therapy process, explain how therapy works, along with therapeutic approaches, and review session rates. This conversation is tailored to meet you where you are, ensuring a supportive and comfortable introduction to therapy, especially if this is your first time working with a therapist.

2. Scheduling Your First Session

When scheduling your first session, we will review availability and book a time that works best for you. You will also receive important details, such as contact information and instructions for accessing telehealth sessions.

3. Ongoing Therapy Sessions

We will work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that reflects your unique goals, needs, and circumstances. This plan will guide our work and may be adjusted over time as your progress evolves. Sessions will continue at a frequency that best supports your growth, whether weekly, biweekly, or at another pace that feels appropriate for you. Throughout this process, we will regularly check in on your progress, address any current challenges, and ensure that therapy remains aligned with what you need most at each stage of your journey.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma Therapy helps individuals process and recover from distressing or overwhelming experiences. It focuses on reducing the emotional and psychological impact of trauma symptoms, including flashbacks, anxiety, emotional numbness, and hypervigilance.

Common evidence-based approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and other trauma-informed methods can support recovery. The goal is to support healing, improve emotional regulation, and help individuals rebuild their sense of stability and well-being.

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety is characterized by excessive worry, fear, or apprehension about future events. It can manifest in various forms, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobias.

Anxiety Therapy often focuses on identifying unhelpful or distorted thinking patterns, such as excessive worry, self-criticism, or catastrophic thinking, and replacing them with more balanced and realistic perspectives. It may also include learning practical coping strategies to manage stress, reduce avoidance behaviors, and improve daily functioning.

Understanding the root causes of anxiety is essential for creating an effective treatment plan tailored to each individual.

Relationship Therapy

Relationship Therapy is a form of counseling that helps individuals or partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen emotional connection. It provides a supportive space to explore relationship challenges such as trust issues, recurring arguments, emotional distance, or differences in needs and expectations.

The goal is to build more supportive, balanced, and satisfying relationships, whether between romantic partners, family members, or others, while fostering healthier communication and long-term connection.
